The 2007 World Snooker Championship will be held on April 21st at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England. It is the climax of the annual snooker calendar. It is also considered the biggest snooker event of the year in regard to prestige, world ranking points, and prize money.And for those of you who aren’t familiar with the game, Snooker is a cue sport which is particularly popular in English-speaking countries and the Far East. It is played on a large billiards table with 6 pockets. It is played using a cue, a cue ball, 15 red balls, and 6 balls of different colors. A players wins an individual game (or frame) by scoring more points than his or her opponent. A match is made up of a certain number of framed (agreed upon before the match begins).
While most Americans aren’t familiar with the game (save for those readers of Andy Capp), it is especially popular in the UK. Top players can earn millions of dollars in tournament play, not to mention endorsements.
