Honestly, this probably isn't a bad time to make these bets. Unlike NFL teams, you know what the roster is going to look like. You know what the schedules look like. And since there are only a handful of teams with a real chance to win the national title, you can place a bet before everyone else makes the same conclusion and the line moves.

Remember the wisdom of sports gambling; the profession gambler bets early on the underdogs. So pick someone a little down the list and take the long odds. Just don't drop too far down the list.

My favorites to win the BCS Championship Series off this list are Michigan, USC and Texas. USC and Texas have had a year to reload. Neither is in an terribly difficult conference. I automatically count off for teams in the SEC, because it is usually a brutal conference. In years past, I would say the same about the Big Ten.

After last year, I'm not so sure. Ohio State and Michigan looked so dominant in the Big Ten, then the Buckeyes got whacked by the Gators.

That being said, the Wolverines are my early pick. They usually throw one big bomb out there every year to ruin their chances. But if the Buckeyes take a step down, this could be Michigan's year.

Or maybe I just like the uniforms.
