Casinos coming to Massachusetts? - Indian Tribe makes a Push

Casino gambling may be one step closer to becoming a reality in the state of Massachusetts. This is due to a newly recognized Indian tribe claiming that it can open a casino resort with any kind of state approval.
The debate over casino gambling in Massachusetts has been going on for a long time, but the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe insist that it can legally open a resort casino around “bingo slots.”
It has been reported that the tribe is scouting in the Southeastern part of the state near Plymouth, New Bedford, and Middleboro. They ultimately want about 300 acres near a major highway.
It has also been reported that they are being backed financially by a Midwest casino developer. Together, they look to follow the trail made by the Seminole tribe.
But instead of just having a casino filled with bingo slots, tribal leaders would prefer to work out a deal with Gov. Deval Patrick which would allow them to have a full-fledged casino with slot machines and table games. While Bingo slots are profitable, they only bring in about two-thirds of what comes into a regular casino.
We’ll keep you updated on this story, but something tells me that the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe will end up getting their way.
