Governor Kathleen Sebelius Signs Expanded Gambling Bill - Kansas To Add Four Destination Casinos

Kansas governor, Kathleen Sebelius, will sign a bill this week which could expand the gambling industry in her state. Casino and horse racing enthusiasts have lobbied for the passage of such a bill for the last ten years.
A new law would clear the way for the creation of four new destination casinos in Kansas. It would also add another two race tracks in the state. The governor's office noted this would be an expansion of "responsible gaming".
The casinos would be spread around the state to four different counties. Those certain to get their own casino would be Ford County and Wyandotte County. Two more destinations have to be decided. One casino would go into either Cherokee or Crawford County, while a second casino would be built in either Sumner or Sedgwick County.
As a bone to the horse racing interests, the bill contains provisions to add slot machines to three of the state's race tracks. This includes one track in Kansas City, Kansas, and another track in Frontenac. The third horse racing destination would be Greyhound Park in Wichita, the largest city in the state.
All in all, 2,800 slot machines would be placed in these race tracks, though it has yet to be decided how many would go in each.
Governor Sebelius will be holding signings of the bill in several locations this week, which should help her get the message out in the media that new games are coming to town. Congratulations to gambling advocates in Kansas for a hard won fight.
