High Stakes Poker 4th Season - HighStakesPoker on GSN - Game Show Network

The Game Show Network has announced it will bring back its popular High Stakes Poker program. This is good news for us fans of television poker. There really is no other show on television like HighStakesPoker.

High Stakes Poker is not your normal televised tournament. In fact, it isn't a tournament at all. Players put their own money on the line.

This is a ring game. Episodes are broken into sessions, but there really is no end of the game. Each player buys in to the game. Minimum buy-in is $100,000. If you bust out, you can buy in for a minimum of $50,000 again.

Game play takes on the structure of a private game, not tournament play. The blinds remain the same throughout the game, though there are set antes. Otherwise, it takes on the No Limit Holdem format.

The players are among the biggest names in poker. Former High Stakes Poker players include Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson, Barry Greenstein, Jennifer Harmen, Chris Ferguson, Phil Hellmuth Jr., Mike "the Mouth" Matusow and Phil Ivey.

Non-pros who have been seen on the show are Jennifer Tilly and longtime Los Angeles Lakers owner, Dr. Jerry Buss. A.J. Benza and Gabe Kaplan host the show.

The entire season is played over one 24-hour session of poker. This session is edited into a 13 episode program.

It's a lot different when players are playing for their own money. High Stakes Poker really is a like a seat at an exclusive poker game in some private corner of a big time casino.
