NBA MVP Proposition Bets - NBAMVP Props Wagers at Bodog.com - Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki

The NBA regular season is approaching its end. That means it's time to decide who the NBA MVP for the 2006-2007 season is going to be.

One player gets the acclaim. All the other top players use the snub as playoff motivation. Everyone wins.

There are two guys who stand ahead of the rest this year. Former teammates Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash are the odds-on favorites to take the MVP. Nash would probably be the favorite, but he's won it the last two years. Most insiders assume the voters won't give it to one guy three times in a row. Even Michael Jordan would lose the occasional MVP vote to Karl Malone or someone like that.

That leaves Nowitzki as the man of the year. His Mavericks have the best record in the league, a full 6 games better than the second place Phoenix Suns.

Even after the spanking the Mavs got from Steve Nash and the Mavs yesterday, the Mavs will end up with the best regular season by several links. That gives Dirk a great case.

If you want to beat on a longer shot, take a look at Kobe Bryant. He's getting a lot of talk from experts who think he is by far the best single player in the NBA right now. He's one of only two players to post four straight 50-point games, taking his place alongside Wilt Chamberlain for that distinction. If the voters happen to look at crazy numbers, Kobe Bryant at 4-to-1 odds could be a nice little dark horse for you.
Lebron James is the only other viable option. I think he's still one year away, assuming James and the Cavaliers continue to improve next year. You could make the case he's got his team to the #2 spot in the East, a far sight better than Kobe Bryant and the Lakers likely 6th seed in the West. But voters know he's got lots of good years ahead of him, so Lebron's time hasn't come yet.

You're insane if you waste your money on any of the other players on the list. Those bets are just there for fans who don't quite have the right perspective on how their local team fits into the big picture. If you want to be Nash and Nowitzki tie in the MVP voting, take the 7/1 bet to that effect. Ties are such a longshot that you aren't playing the odds with that bet, though.

Steve Nash - 10/11
