NFL Suspends Adam "Pac-Man" Jones for a Year - Bodog.com Proposition Bet on Pac-Man Jones - Bodog Betting

I noticed a particularly interesting NFL proposition bet on Bodog.com the other day. The bet centers around Adam "Pac-Man" Jones, the Tennessee Titans cornerback who was just suspended from NFL competition for a year. That's suspended for a year without pay.

The proposition is, "Will Adam "Pac-Man" Jones be arrested before the 31st of December, 2007?"

-110 - NO
-130 - YES

So Pac-Man's a slight favorite to make his triumphant return to custody sometime this year. Pac-Man has averaged an incident with the authorities about once every two-and-a-half months since he was drafted into the National Football League. You think Jones would have learned his lesson by now, but that's been said before. This bet covers about a 9-month window.

Here's the full scoop on Adam Jones, if you are considering taking this wager.

The suspension came down from new NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, after an incident in Las Vegas over the NBA All-Star Weekend. Pac-Man brought 81,000 dollars in cash to a Vegas strip club, where he proceeded to 'make it rain'. The term is in reference to a rap song, "Make It Rain", by Fat Man featuring Lil Wayne, which is about the rappers making it rain money on their "hoes".

For the rap curious, the song contains such lyrics as "got a handful of stacks better grab an umbrella" and "I make it rain on them hoes, I make it rain".

Apparently, Pac-Man decided this would be a good idea in a real strip club. Quite predictably, the strippers began to make off with the money. A manager (of some sort) started bagging up the money and taking it to the back. This incensed Pac-Man, who allegedly grabbed one of the strippers by the hair and slammed her face into the stage. Security intervened and Pac-Man was put in a choke hold.

At this point, it is alleged that Jones began to threaten the security guard with lethal force. The scuffle quieted down for a minute, but started up again, whereupon the same security guard placed Jones in the same choke hold.

Meanwhile, one of Jones's entourage made it to their car and produced a gun. This individual is alleged to have fired shots into the crowd. One of these shots severed the spine of a second security guard. This man will never walk again. The member of Jones's entourage has been charged with attempted murder, while Pac-Man denies any wrong doing.

The NFL isn't buying his story. This is the tenth run-in with the law Jones has had since he was drafted in April of 2005. It has become a major topic on sports radio shows across America.

Roger Goodell, only six months into his reign as NFL Commissioner, wants to lay down the law. He handed down the year suspension, adding in an 8-game suspension of Cincinnati Bengals third receiver, Chris Henry. Henry has had repeated legal troubles, though nothing like the Pac-Man shootout.

The suspension
puts into serious question Pac-Man Jones's future in the league. Presumably, the Titans will keep him on their roster throughout the suspension, because they spent an extremely high draft pick on him. If the Titans cut Jones, he would have to sit for a year before any team could make use of him. That would make it unlikely NFL teams, with their rapid turnover in coaching staff and front office personnel, would take a chance (and the media backlash) to sign Jones. Whatever the case, this is starting to look more and more like a huge bust for the Titans.

Pac-Man was drafted 6th overall in the 2005 NFL Draft. The Titans chose Jones over Antrel Rolle, a University of Miami cornerback whom many considered a better NFL prospect. Rolle was bigger and had slightly better 40-times than Jones.

Unfortunately for the Titans, they had just let Antrel's brother, Samari Rolle, depart in free agency, and they may not have wanted to bring Samari's brother in to play the same position. With a glaring need for a cornerback caused by Samari's departure, the Titans went ahead and drafted Adam Jones. It now looks like they should have kept it in the family.

Questions loomed about Pac-Man's character at the time. In his rookie season, Pac-Man went without an interception. Since teams usually throw at a rookie corner, that was a bad sign. Things looked up last year, when Pac-Man made a couple of key interceptions which aided comebacks by rookie quarterback sensation, Vince Young. The Titans were one of the surprise teams in the NFL last year.

But in his two troubled years with the Titans, Pac-Man's on-field play has been overshadowed by off-field incidents. The Titans may look at this suspension as a blessing in disguise, since it gets a major distraction out of their locker room. Maybe Pac-Man learns responsibility in his year away from football.

More likely, he'll just have more time on his hands for mischief. I think I would bet that he'll be arrested sometime this year.
