As with every season, there are clear favorites at the moment. The problem is, the favorites on this show have a problem of getting voted off the show. This is the proposition bet where you should play dark horses. If a contestant is considered the "favorite", and therefore a danger to all the other contestants, the rest of the group tends to gang up on that person to vote them off.
I would suggest placing bets on those in the middle of the pack. The ones like Lisette has little chance of winning. She's a weak link, sure to be continually exposed to elimination. But the ones in the 7-to-1 and 8-to-1 range are likely to stay under the radar. They are fairly competent, but not too competent.
This really is a show that's too hard to predict to make it worth my money. On American Idol, it is a contest of talent and likability. On Survival, it is a contest of politics. Politics is too dirty and too unpredictable to make good betting decisions on.
I mean, can you imagine making wagers on the outcome of the recent 2006 midterm elections? Who won congress came down to a few thousand votes in a handful of races spread out across this great land of ours. Imagine betting right now on who will be elected U.S. president in 2008. There just are too many twists and turns, though I probably would bet on a female president if the odds got somewhere out near +800.
And then again, maybe not.
