Trump Challenges Atlantic City Union Vote
On Monday, Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc., the parent company of three Atlantic City casinos bearing Donald Trump’s name (Trump Taj Mahal, Trump Marina, and Trump Plaza), moved to block the results of a vote by dealers at Trump Plaza to join a labor union. The objection was filed with the National Labor Relations Boards and seeks to cancel the results of a March 31st election in which dealers chose to join the United Auto Workers by a margin of 2-to-1.This was the second vote of the year in which Atlantic City dealers chose to unionize. The first vote came when dealers from Caesars Atlantic City did so, and it was automatically approved when their parent company (Harrah’s Entertainment Inc.) chose not to challenge the results. Obviously, Trump Entertainment seems more willing to fight.
The basis of the challenge is centered around a March 25th rally in which union representatives and politicians counted union pledge cards signed by dealers. Trump supporters claim that this gave the false impression that the union was already the representative of the dealers prior to the election.
Trump Entertainment is asking that the results be set aside and a new election is held. The National Labor Relations Boards gave no timetable for a ruling on the objection.
