2007 World Cyber Games - Let Your Geek Flag Fly!

Sure, video games are considered “games of skill” and are therefore immune to the dreaded gambling tag. However, anyone who’s won a few bucks off their buddies in a heated session of Madden or Fight Night Round 3 knows that there’s some serious money to be made

And that’s never been more evident than at the World Cyber Games. The world’s largest international video game festival (over a million players from 70 different countries), it all culminates in October at the WCG 2007 Grand Final, where the alpha geeks of the world will gather to demonstrates their video game mojo.

In the meantime, the American leg of the competition kicks off with the WCG US Open on June 2-3 at the Samsung experience in New York City. America’s greatest couch potatoes will gather to compete at 10 of the hottest PC and Xbox 360 games on the market. These include:

- Gears of War (Xbox 360)

- Dead or Alive 4 (Xbox 360)

- Project Gotham Racing 3 (Xbox 360)

- Need for Speed Carbon (PC)

- FIFA Soccer 07 (PC)

- Age of Empires III: The War Chiefs (PC)

- Starcraft: Brood War (PC)

- WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne (PC)

- Half-Life: Counter-Strike (PC)

- Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars (PC)

Players will be competing for automatic berths and top seeds in the WCG USA National Championship in September, as well as over $20,000 in cash and prizes. In addition, winners of certain games will receive a trip to Cancun, Mexico to compete in the WCG Pan-American Championships (which take place June 22nd - 24th).

You’ll also be happy to know that this year’s Grand Final in Seattle, Washington will be televised live, so there’s no reason why you can’t spoil your inner geek. In fact, last year’s event from Monza, Italy had more than 24 million viewers, making it the first-ever global satellite broadcast for an e-Sports event.
