2007 World Snooker Championship - Final Results

For regular readers of DaretoGamble, you know that we’ve given several updates on the 2007 World Snooker Championship. Now that the event is in the books, we thought it was high time to reveal the winner of snooker’s most prestigious tournament.

John “The Wizard of Wishaw” Higgins won his second World Championship after fending off a comeback from the very competitive Mark Selby. Held at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, the finals saw Higgins gain a 12-4 lead only to have it whittled down to 14-13 by his opponent in the best-of-35-frames final.

But Higgins responded by playing the kind of quality snooker which allowed him to win his first World Championship nine years ago. Over the next four frames, he shut out Selby and secured a win by an 18-13 margin.

Not only is he now the #1 ranked player for the 2007/2008 season, but he also walked away with the 220,000 pound first prize. To reach the finals, Higgins defeated Michael Holt (10-4), Fergal O’Brien (13-4), Ronnie O’Sullivan (13-9) and Stephen Maguire (17-15). Any way you look at it, that’s a very impressive list of opponents.

According to Higgins, “I’ve won a lot of tournaments, but a lot of people only watch the World Championship and they ask you in the street ‘what has happened to you?’ - and you might have won two or three tournaments during the season.”

According to Bodog at the start of the tournament, Higgins was 10/1 to win. Here’s hoping you put down a few hundred on him to win.
