Gambling News From Around the World

These stories have little in common, except they involve some aspect of gambling. This is a boom time for gaming, unless you live in the United States. Otherwise, welcome to The Gambling Renaissance.
GAMBLING EXEC OUT OF PRISON
A British gambling executive recently was released from prison. The Wembley PC exec, Nigel Potter, served 3 years in prison for bribery. He was convicted of offering the former Rhode Island House Speaker $4 million. This supposedly would have secured Speaker Bucci's support in placing slot machines at a Lincoln, Rhode Island casino. The bribe would have assured Bucci's opposition to a rival Indian casino.
GAMBLING NOT LINKED TO LOCAL ECONOMY
A recent survey shows that gambling revenues are not directly linked to the economy. The survey, which covered 11 U.S. states, showed that gambling revenues rose even in states where the economy was taking a downturn. The American Gaming Association released the study.
NETELLER ISSUES NEW DEBIT CARD
Neteller has released a new debit card for the Europe and Asian Pacific regions. This new Neteller card has fewer built-in transaction fees. A secondary advantage over the old debit card is that this one is not tied to Canadian currency.
U.S. SPORTS AGAINST BARNEY FRANK LEGISLATION
Continuing our coverage of the Barney Frank gambling legislation, it appears the Big Four sports in the U.S. are against the newest bill in Congress. College sports is also against Frank's legislation. The NFL, NBA, NHL, Major League Baseball and the NCAA are lobbying against the bill. This is their typical hypocrisy, where they distance from gambling while releasing injury reports to help gamblers make their picks. Congressman Frank says he has offered to write excemptions to address the major leagues' concerns.
THE CHEAPEST WAY TO THE WSOP
If you're looking for a cheap way to get to the 2007 World Series of Poker, let me direct you to the cheapest ticket to the WSOP. PlayersOnly is offering the WSOP Low Bid Auction. At auction is a package trip to the 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event, along with a hotel accomodations and airfare. The person who offers the lowest unique bid wins the package.
For example, if you bid 1 cent, but someone else bids 1 cent, you do not win the bid. But if you bid 2 cents and no one else does, then you win the auction package. The trick is bidding a low amount that no one else will bid. One recent auction for another event went for 53 cents.
Heck, I might bid on that one, myself.
