Heroes Season Finale and Bodog Odds Recap
The season-ending episode of the hit NBC series Heroes aired on Monday, May 21st, and fans watched the show’s finale with great anticipation. Would Sylar succeed in killing all the heroes? Would New York City be destroyed by a massive explosion? These questions and many more would be answered, and new mysteries would be introduced in preparation for Season 2.Of course, Bodog bettors were watching with particular interest due to odds offered on several possible events in the show’s final 5 episodes. Some time back, we here at Dare to Gamble reported on 7 of these prop bets. So without further delay, let’s wade right in and see which wagers were winners and which were losers..
WARNING - SPOILERS AHEAD
1. The Final Fate of Mohinder Suresh - Bodog posed the question of whether or not everyone’s favorite genetics professor would die and not come back in the final 5 episodes. Judging by the odds (-140 for NO), most felt that he would survive.
Sure enough, he made it through the season intact. While he didn’t do much in the season finale, his intervention in “Landslide” saved the life of young Molly Parker. Even though he doesn’t have powers, this action (among many others throughout the season) proves him to be a true hero.
2. Family Reunion - Another option was whether or not the Texas cheerleader with regeneration powers, Claire Bennet, and her adoptive father, Noah Bennet, would be reunited in the final 5 episodes. At -220 for “yes,” it seemed that most felt the two would get back together.
If you followed the masses on this one, you would have been right. In the episode entitled “The Hard Part,” Claire spots Mr. Bennet as he walks toward the plaza with Ted Sprague and Matt Parkman. She wastes no time in rushing forward and giving him a hug. How touching.
3. Niki vs. Jessica - Part assassin and part Internet stripper, how can you not love Niki Sanders and her badass split personality, Jessica? Bodog certainly liked her enough to include her in the betting, asking customers to wager on whether or not Niki would overthrow Jessica and regain control of her body in the final 5 episodes.
At the time of our article, the odds were -180 for “yes” and +140 for “no.” Once again, the favored bet turned out to be the correct one. Not only does Niki get control of her body, but she also gets Jessica’s super-strength in the process and uses it in the season-ending confrontation with Sylar.
4. The Exploding Man - For several episodes, viewers have been aware that Peter Petrelli might very well explode and take a good section of New York City with him (all part of the evil Mr. Linderman’s plans to “save” the world).
Now wanting to miss out, Bodog asked bettors to try and predict if Peter would die and not return in the final 5 episodes . It certainly seems that most fans wanted a happy ending for the character, as the odds at one point stood at -160 for him not dying and +120 for Peter buying the farm. So what actually happened?
Well, Peter did explode, but he didn’t destroy New York in the process. His brother Nathan flew in at the last minute and carried him high into the sky. As to whether or not he died, that’s somewhat inconclusive, as Peter also has the ability to regenerate from massive amounts of damage (already coming back from the dead in previous episodes).
I strongly suspect that Bodog will rule that he did not die, although I could very well be wrong. It will be interesting to see what they decide on this somewhat vague outcome.
5 - 7 Sylar and Hiro - The last several bets are all tied together. Bodog posed the following questions:
Will Sylar die and not come back in the final 5 episodes?
Will Hiro and Sylar battle to the death in the final 5 episodes?
If they do battle to the death, who will win?
Much like #4, the results of these were a bit open to interpretation. First of all, Sylar was run through by Hiro’s sword, but near the end of the episode, we see a trail of blood leading down into the sewer. I’m guessing that this means Sylar isn’t dead, which will no doubt disappoint those who bet on him checking out (at -110).
But the good news is that the final showdown could hardly be considered a “duel to the death” between Hiro and Sylar. That should make all those who bet against the showdown at -200 happy.
And finally, the question of the winner of their duel is rendered moot. Hope you didn’t sink any money into this one.
That’s it for this season of Heroes, but you can bet that they’ll be back for Season 2. In the meantime, you can read about more entertainment proposition bets by clicking on the following articles:
