Is Paris Going to Jail? - Update
Weeks ago, we posted odds from Bodog on whether or not Paris Hilton would serve any jail time after being caught driving with a suspended license (a violation of her parole for a prior DUI arrest). Well, the verdict is in, and it appears that the blonde socialite and amateur porn star will be spending 45 days in a county jail. Before the sentencing, Hilton gave this not-so-eloquent plea to Judge Michael T. Sauer. “I’m very sorry, and from now on I’m going to pay complete attention to everything. I’m sorry, and I did not do it on purpose at all.” Come to think of it, I think that was exactly what Jeffrey Daumer said.
Hilton must report to the jail in suburban Lynwood, California by June 5th. If she fails to do so, she will face 90 days in jail. While incarcerated, she will spend most of her time in a 12 by 8 foot cell, with at least one hour allotted each day to shower, watch television, talk on the telephone, or participate in outdoor recreation. As a high-profile inmate, she will be segregated from the general population for her own safety.
Hilton and her parents looked less than pleased as they left the courtroom. In fact, their lawyer said he planned to appeal. “I’m shocked, I’m surprised and really disheartened in the system that I’ve worked in for close to 40 years,” he said. Good grief. This guy makes it sound like they just gave her the electric chair.
The odds were +500 that she would spend time behind bars and -800 that her high-priced lawyer would help her weasel out of it. Of course, she must spend 24 hours behind bars for the bet to be valid. Even though she’s been sentenced, she hasn’t served any time yet. She’s got about a month until she has to report, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens next. No doubt, the tabloids are loving this one.
