Rent a Poker Player!
If you’ve always wanted to be part of a high-stakes poker tournament but just don’t have the skills, RounderAuction.com has a great alternative. Basically, the site allows you to “rent” a poker pro.
The site is set up with numerous auctions, and many of them involve poker players who are looking for some kind of sponsorship. The site provides information about the pros, available tournament and cash game deals, tips on how to evaluate a player, and even a sample sponsorship contract.
So how does it work, exactly? Well, let’s look at a current auction as an example.
Professional player Scott Neumen has put himself up for auction. Scott was formerly sponsored by Golden Palace and has made 65 final tables in various tournaments such as the $1000 No Limit WSOP at Harrah’s Atlantic City and the Borgata Winter Poker Open.
He’ll be playing in the upcoming CEO Poker Tour Tournament at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. One of the events that he can compete in is the $525 buy-in event. And that’s how much the auction will cost you. Basically, you’re paying Scott’s way into the tournament. If he loses, then you’re out $525. But if he finishes in the money, then you’ll spilt the cash 50/50 after taxes. By the way, there’s a $150,000 prize pool for the event, so there’s a chance to make some real money here.
Admittedly, this kind of deal is not a sure thing. But then that’s why they call it gambling, isn’t it?
And don’t forget that the 2007 World Series of Poker is just around the corner. There will be plenty of poker players willing to offer up 50% of their winnings to anyone who can help them raise of portion (or all) of the $10,000 entry fee.. Sure, you’re not going to be able to sponsor Phil Hellmuth or Daniel Negreanu, but who had ever heard of guys like Chris Moneymaker or Jamie Gold before their big wins?
If this site can hang around for a while and gain momentum, you might even see some bigger name stars make appearances from time to time. Personally, I’d love to sponsor Evelyn Ng for a private dinner for two.
