Rules for 2007 World Series of Poker

The World Series of Poker is only a few short weeks away (starts on June 1st), and it looks at though WSOP Tournament Director Jack Effel has some changes in store. You see, Mr. Effel sat down at his computer and personally cranked out the rules for this years event. Okay, he probably had a secretary type it, but you get the point. - there are some changes coming to the WSOP in 2007.

There are 93 rules in all, and you can view them in their entirety by going to the WSOP official site. Here's a brief rundown of a few of the more interesting ones.

NEW RULES FOR THE 2007 WSOP

1. Etiquette Violations - Repeatedly touching another player's card or chips will result in a penalty. This rule also punishes those who delay the game or engage in excessive chatter.

2. Apparel Rules - There is to be no advertising of any habit-forming drug, tobacco product, handgun or handgun ammunition. Well, there goes my sponsorships, as I was going to be representing a bong manufacturer and hollow-point bullet maker. Damn you, Jack Effel!

The rule also states that clothing must not contain any words or phrases that are defamatory, obscene, or otherwise objectionable.

3. The F-Bomb Rule - Directing profanity at another player, dealer, or tournament staff member will result in penalties. This one should be common sense, but there are a lot of hot-headed idiots at the WSOP.

4. Foreign Objects - No foreign objects may be kept on the table except for one card cap no larger than 2 inches in diameter and a half-inch in depth. This would eliminate family photos as good luck charms, Greg Raymer's fossil, and numerous other items.

5. Cell Phones - If you want to use a cell phone this year, you will have to step away from the table to do so. If you are on a cell phone or texting a message when you receive your first card of the hand, then you will be considered to have a dead hand. Cell phones can't be placed on the poker table.

6. Show One, Show All - At the end of a hand, if a player exposes one hole card, then they must also show the other hole card if asked to do so by any player.

Remember, that's only 6 out of 93. I highly recommend that you read them all. And while you're in the mood for reading, you might also want to check out the following WSOP articles:
