World Series of Poker News

The 2007 World Series of Poker is just around the corner. Here are several stories associated with this year's WSOP.

JOE HACHEM JOINS WPA BOARD

Card Player reports that 2005 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Joe Hachem is in the news once again.

Hachem is the newest member of the World Poker Association board. He will be the secretary of the board. Hachem is expected to be the public face of the WPA, which intends on a massive membership drive in the coming months in years. The World Poker Association currently has only 900 members.

The WPA will have a booth at this year's World Series of Poker. Hachem says the WSOP booth will be manned by many of the stars of professional poker, who will give poker tips and stories to those attending. The World Poker Association attempts to promote professional behavior in the poker community.

WSOP TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR RESIGNS
In other WSOP News, Bob Daily, the tournament director of the 2005 and 2006 World Series of Poker, resigned from Harrah's Entertainment this week. This means that Daily is out of the coordination loop this year. He had been a major part of planning for the 2007 WSOP.

The 2005 and 2006 tourneys were by far the biggest ever, so losing a major part of the team which organized those tournaments could be important. Daily released a memo saying he had complete confidence the current team would put on a sterling tournament. He has left for DG Holdings.

THE NEVADA CANCER INSTITUTE

Meanwhile, Harrah's will be sponsoring a fundraising event during this year's World Series of Poker. Harrah's is setting up a players lounge at the WSOP this year. Any player can enter the lounge; there's only one catch, though.

To have access to the VIP lounge, a player must donate at least $1,000 to the Nevada Cancer Institute. This gives a player some privacy during the event, while also helping a worthy foundation.
