2007 World Series of Poker - Day 10 Recap
The action continued on Sunday at the 2007 World Series of Poker. Here’s a brief recap:
EVENT #13 $5,000 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP POT LIMIT HOLD’EM
The final table included players such as Jason Lester, Gavin Griffin, Humberto Brenes, Keith Lehr and Jeff Lisandro. It was Allen Cunningham, however, who came from third place to win the event after defeating Lisandro in heads-up play. This is Cunningham’s 5th WSOP bracelet, and he picked up $487,287 for the victory. Humberto Brenes took third place.
EVENT #15 $1,500 NO LIMIT HOLD’EM
Phil Hellmuth was on the hunt for a record 11th bracelet. He started the day’s final table with just under a million chips, 300,000 less than chip leader Rick Fuller. Scott Clements started the day in third place.
NOTE: It has since been announced that Hellmuth won the event on Monday and captured a record 11th WSOP bracelet. In a classy move, Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson (both 10-time winners) were on hand to congratulate him.
EVENT #18 $5,000 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP LIMIT HOLD’EM
Even though Hellmuth has moved into the lead, Doyle Brunson has a chance to tie him with a win in this event. He was one of the 257 players to enter this event, and he had moved into 7th place by the end of the first day. Thomas Wahlroos was in the lead with 58,100 chips. Tony G and Barry Greenstein are also in contention.
EVENT #16 $2,500 H.O.R.S.E.
This event went until 20 players were left, and then tournament directors called a halt to play. At that point, Ali Eslami was in the lead, and 2007 bracelet winner Tom Schneider is in 10th place (looking to be the first double winner this year).
$1,000 LADIES NO LIMIT HOLD’EM
This event kicked off on Sunday with defending champ Mary Jones looking to repeat last year’s success. The number of competitors was a record 1,286. At the end of the day, Jones was in 10th place. Katja Thater was in fifth, with Julia Perla, Kathleen Gliua and Ritter Trauke at the top of the leader board. The remaining 65 players at the end of Day One are all within the money bubble.
On Monday, Events #19 ($2,500 No Limit Hold’em) and #20 ($2,000 Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo) got started. As always, check back with Dare to Gamble for more info on these events.
