MAIN EVENT
Eddie Alvarez vs. Matt Lee
ALVAREZ VS. LEE
Eddie Alvarez (9-1) will be looking to get back on track after losing his welterweight title to Nick “The Goat” Thompson last April. He’ll be taking on Matt Lee (9-5-1), the man who defeated Alvarez’s trainer, Stephen Haigh, last year.
“I beat the teacher, now I’m going to beat up on the student,” said Lee. Of course, Alvarez begs to differ.
“First, I’m going to even the score on behalf of my coach, “said Alvarez. “Second, I’m going to put on a show for all my fans up from Philly. Last, but not least, beating Matt is going to put me a step closer to winning back my championship belt.”
D’AUGUSTE VS. LaROSA
In exciting female MMA action, Laura D’Auguste will try to capture the women’s 135-pound championship belt. But she’s in for a tough fight, as she’ll be taking on New Jersey’s own Tara LaRosa.
“It’s going to be a huge thrill fighting for the title in front of my home fans, and I look forward to hearing them cheer when my arm is raised after the fight,” said LaRosa.
PRANGLEY VS. KONDO
Trevor Prangley (14-4) will also be taking on Japanese legend Yuki Kondo (46-19-6) for the middleweight title. Kondo’s list of opponents reads like a who’s who of the sport, including Tito Ortiz, Wanderlei Silva, Josh Barnett and Dan Henderson. He is also a veteran of the Pancrase organization.
“Trevor is tough, but I’ve fought some of the best fighters in the world, and I believe my experience will serve me well in this fight,” said a confident Kondo.
Not surprisingly, the South African Prangley sees things differently.
“I’m in fantastic shape, and I’m looking forward to putting on a show for the fans in New Jersey,” stated Prangley. “It’s every fighter’s goal to win a title belt, and I won’t let Yuki Kondo stand in my way.”
