Chris Benoit and Family Found Dead

Sure, it may have nothing to do with betting, but we here at Dare to Gamble wanted to pause for a moment and acknowledge the passing of one of our favorite wrestlers. On June 25th, Chris Benoit was found dead in his home, along with his wife Nancy (formerly known as Woman) and son Daniel.
While details are still sketchy, the WWE has released the following statement:
“World Wrestling Entertainment is deeply saddened to report that today Chris Benoit and his family were found dead in their home. There are no further details at this time, other than the Benoit family residence is currently being investigated by local authorities.”
Benoit was highly respected in the wrestling world for his technical ability and skill in constructing a match. With his trademark toothless grin and ripped physique, he was certainly a fan favorite. Originally from Canada, he performed in ECW, WCW, WWE, and numerous foreign companies. He was a former WWE champion.
Monday night’s RAW was canceled and replaced with a tribute to Benoit, including matches and comments from others in the wrestling community. Many of the clips can be found on the excellent DVD entitled Hard Knocks: The Chris Benoit Story, which I highly recommend.
Fayette County, Georgia police are investigating Benoit’s house following the discoveries of the bodies. Lieutenant Tommy Pope told ABC news that it was being investigated as a “possible double murder-suicide,” and the police were not searching for any suspects outside the home, as the instruments of death were located at the scene.
