Florida Poker Bill Becomes Law - No Limit Holdem

The state of Florida passed a law allowing No-Limit Texas Hold 'em.

The law allows casinos to raise the limits on Limit Holdem events, while also legalizing the no limit games. On July 1, 2007, the florida poker bill becomes law.

The bill covers casino stakes and ring games. Buy-ins cannot exceed $100, though this is the only limitation on the rule. The limit in pot limit games are raised from 2 dollars to 5 dollars. Larger buy-ins are allowed for tournaments.

Rules are loosened on gaming in non-casino betting venues, too. Race tracks and jai-alai stadiums, where gambling was allowed during events--but only during events--has been expanded. Gamblers now may attend these venues and bet when events are not being held.

Casinos are allowed to pay out "card jackpots", such as high hand jackpots and bad beat jackpots.

Poker Laws in Florida

Poker was legalized in Florida in 1996, though in a limited form.

This bill was passed by the Florida legislature in April. When Florida governor Charlie Crist declined to either sign nor veto the bill in the allotted time, the bill automatically became law.
