LeBron James and NBA Finals - Bodog Odds

LeBron James aka “King James” and “The Chosen One” - a 6’8”, 240 pound phenom and, at only 22 years of age, the current NBA player most likely to meet the lofty standards established by former superstars Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson.

Chosen with the first overall pick in 2003 by the Cleveland Cavaliers, James was voted NBA Rookie of the Year. In every season since, he has received All-NBA and All-Star honors. In 2006 and 2007, he has led the Cavs to playoff berths, and this year’s appearance in the NBA Finals marks the first visit in franchise history.

Just take a look at Game 5 against the Detroit Pistons, and you’ll see how far he’s progressed as a player. With only average talent around him, James exploded for 48 points (a Cavs record for a playoff game), 9 boards and 7 assists. In the hard-fought double-overtime victory, he virtually dominated the waning minutes of the contest, scoring the last 25 of the team’s points. NBA analyst Marv Albert went so far as to call it “one of the greatest performances in NBA history.”

But now King James and the Cavaliers face the San Antonio Spurs. While Tim Duncan and company tend to cause fans to stifle yawns with their methodical style of play, there’s no denying that their tactics are effective. They’re also not afraid to get their hands dirty, as evidenced by their controversial series with the Phoenix Suns.

BODOG ODDS FOR LEBRON JAMES

Throughout the regular season, LeBron averaged 27.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 6.0 assists, and his season high was 41 points (but don’t forget about that 48 vs. Detroit in the playoffs). Without a doubt, the league would love to see him lead the Cavs to victory and truly become the face of the NBA. But the Spurs may have a little something to say about that.

Game One, which airs Thursday night on ABC, will give basketball fans a good idea of how the rest of the series will play out. Will LeBron dazzle the opposition with his pure athleticism, or will the Spurs grind him down with their relentless team play?
