Phil Hellmuth Jr, - World Series of Poker 2007 Day 11

Here's our continuing coverage of the 2007 World Series of Poker.

EVENT #15 - $1,500 No Limit Hold Em Event

Phil Hellmuth Jr. became the all-time leading winner of World Series of Poker bracelets today. He collected his 11th bracelet, pushing him ahead of Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson. Both Chan and Brunson were present to congratulate Hellmuth for his achievement.

A mini-controversy raged around the fact that Harrah's Casino did not allow spectators to watch the event live. Instead, Harrah's officials partitioned the participants in a private room, so they could tape the event and sell pay-per-view rates of $49.95. Onlookers at the casino were allowed to watch the tape of the event an hour later, on big screen televisions placed around the event.

I imagine the casino is more interested in pleasing the broadcasters than the people on site in the casino. There's just more money there.

Here's a news article recap of the final hands in Phil Hellmuth's victory.

EVENT #16 - $2,500 H.O.R.S.E. Event

The Hellmuth landmark wasn't the only story on wsop day 11.

James Richburg won event #16, one of the prestigious H.O.R.S.E. events. Richburg went head-to-head with Walter Browne, a Chess champion. He took home $239,000 for the win.

H.O.R.S.E. is my favorite event. It's certainly the most challenging, since you have to play five games in one. In this case, Richburg eliminated Browne on a hand of Razz.

EVENT #17 - Ladies Hold 'Em Event

This event finished up. Frauke Ritter von Sporschill was the chip leader after two days, but finished 6th in the event. Sally Boyer and Anne Heft came from the middle of the pack (5th and 6th) to outlast the others and fight it out head-to-head. Boyer had a 2-to-1 chip lead in head-to-head, though Heft evened it up. Eventually, Boyer finished off her opponent with a strong late push.

Here's the final nine.

1st - Sally Anne Boyer for $262,077
2nd - Anne Heft
3rd - Randi Calabro
4th - Kathleen Gliva
5th - Katja Thater
6th - Frauke Ritter von Sporschill
7th - Mindy Trinidad
8th - Vanessa Selbst
9th - Julie Dang

EVENT #18 - World Championship of Limit Holdem

This event reached its final table today. Ray Dehkharghani and William Thorsson are the chip leaders. Thorsson is the overall chip leader. The blinds are at 8 thousand and 15 thousand. The short stack is at 95 thousand, so this contest should get heated pretty quickly.

EVENT #19 - $2,500 No Limit Holdem Event

Event 19 touched off today. They will move down to the final table of nine players tomorrow. Mike "the Mouth" Matusow remains in contention.
EVENT # 20 - $2,000 Seven-Card Stud Hi-Low 8-or-Better

Another event which got started today. After one day of struggle, several big names are among the list of 136 players remaining.

Ted Forrest is a five time WSOP bracelet winner. Forrest is one of the less flamboyant but more effective players in the building, remains in the show.

Annie Duke and Greg Raymer, the 2004 Main Event Winner, also remain.
