Phil Hellmuth Makes History...Again!

Phil Hellmuth is certainly on a roll at this year’s World Series of Poker. Having already moved ahead of Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan after winning a record 11th WSOP bracelet, Hellmuth has now reached another career milestone.

His final table appearance in Event #28 moved him into a first-place tie with TJ Cloutier for most career final tables at the WSOP. Both men now have 39 such appearances.

Phil showed up late for the event, as usual, but by that point he only needed to outlast one player to tie the record. With a couple of short stacks at the table, it was only a matter of time. Eventually, Luke Vrable’s pocket Nines fell to Ben Fineman’s pocket Queens, and Phil Hellmuth had made history once again.

But the master wasn’t done yet. Phil continued on, no doubt looking for a 12th WSOP bracelet. Pocket Aces helped him along the path, but Phil finally ran out of luck during a showdown with Beth Shak. Phil went all-in pre-flop holding an A-10. Shak had a K-Q. Another King was turned over later, and the Poker Brat was out in sixth place.

For his finish in Event #28, Hellmuth won $76,464. Unfortunately, he also dropped an undisclosed amount to Phil Ivey in side bets. Nonetheless, it was a good day for Hellmuth.

In fact, legendary player TJ Cloutier was on hand to congratulate Phil on his accomplishment. You know you’re damn good when players like Cloutier are doling out the congratulations. Never at a loss for words, Hellmuth stated, “There is the world, and then there is me.”
