World Series of Poker 2007 - Day 12 Recap

Enjoy our continuing coverage of the 2007 World Series of Poker.

Event #17 - Ladies No Limit Holdem World Championship

As reported on the Phil Hellmuth post on Day 11, Sally Anne Boyer defeated stars like Katja Thater and Vanessa Selbst to win Event #17, the $1,000 Ladies No Limit Holdem World Championship.

EVENT #18 - $5,000 Limit Holdem World Championship

Saro Getzoyan defeated Geoff Sanford in head-to-head action at the final table. The victory gave Getzoyan a prize of $330000.

Event #19 - $1,500 No Limit Texas Hold 'Em

Day 2 of this event started with Lars Bonding holding the chip lead at over $155,000. Mike Matusow was in 10th place at $103,700. Other names to watch out for were Alex Bolitin and Dev "TranquilChaos" Porter in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively. Bertrand "Elky" Grospellier is over a hundred thousand in chip, too.

The final table looked completely different than the chip leader board, though. Here is a list of the final nine, in order of chip stack (largest to smallest):

Lars Bonding, Devin Porter, Shawn Hattem, Marcus Obser, John Phan, Bertrand Grospellier, Alex Bolotin, Humberto Brenes and Francois Safieddine. Bonding has $891,000 chips, while Safieddine has $302,000.

Mike Matusow finished in 11th place, just missing the final table. Before he busted, Matusow was trying to organize a players revolt. He wanted the final table members to refuse to sit in the private back room, because the casino refuses to let the public view most final tables. They get $50 for pay-per-view broadcasts, instead.

This plan never had much of a chance of succeeding, as I imagine most newbie players at a final table are ecstatic to be at the final table. It became a dead point when "the Mouth" failed to make the final table.

Event #20 - Seven-Card Stud High-Low 8-or-Better

Steve Weiss was the day 1 chip leader, but was nowhere to be seen when it came time for the final table. John Juanda, Ted Forrest, Chris Ferguson, Michael Mizrachi and Annie Duke were also knocked out of action on Day 2.

7-Card Stud got down to the final table. Fossilman and Doug Carli are among the final nine. Fossilman is in good position to win his second WSOP bracelet. I find it interesting that Raymer has shown himself to be a legitimate poker contender, while Chris Moneymaker is beginning to look increasingly like a fluke.
