Sweden Has New System to Eliminate Problem Gambling

According to our good pals at Radio Sweden, the Swedish government’s online gambling organization, Svenska Spel, is about to introduce a new artificial intelligence software which is designed to target problem gambling.
The CEO of the government-owned company which offers sports book, lottery, poker, casinos and bingo, Jesper Karrbrink, claimed that the software analyzes each player’s bets and keeps track of how much they wager, under what circumstances, and how frequently. He also noted that use of the system is voluntary and requires players to use their personal Svenska Spel betting cards.
The system is designed to spot players who may have a growing gambling problem. Creators of the system, ICU Intelligence, claim that the system spots problem gamblers 90 percent of the time.
If a person is identified as being “at risk,” Svenska Spel will turn off all marketing to that individual and urge them to consider their current betting patterns. They will also be urged to take a test designed to further spot gambling addiction.
ICU also announced plans to eventually make the system available to land-based casinos.
ON A PERSONAL NOTE
While it might sound a bit extreme, at least the Swedes are taking a reasonable, scientific approach to the whole issue of online gambling. In the United States, our Bible-thumping politicians just try to outlaw the thing and spoil everyone’s fun.
Still, one has to wonder how many clients will actually volunteer to be scrutinized by the new system?
