Poker After Dark - Highest Stakes Ever!

If you’re a big fan of high-stakes poker, you’ll just love this week’s episode of NBC’s Poker After Dark. Instead of the usual $20,000 buy-in, the fee for this week has been increased to $50,000. Only one person will walk away with the money, and they’ll receive a massive prize of $300,000! That’s more money than 18 of the 55 bracelet winners in the 2007 WSOP received.

WHAT IS POKER AFTER DARK?

The show is an hour-long late-night poker program which debuted in 2007. It airs six nights a week and is hosted by the foxy Shana Hiatt. Each week features a winner-take-all pot, and many of the players are top poker professionals. The game airs each night, Monday through Friday, with a winner being decided on Friday. Saturday’s show features highlights from the week’s play, plus interviews with the players and other behind-the-scenes goodness.

Despite its late timeslot, the show has enjoyed ratings success. It has even drawn higher rating that The Late Late Show, despite that program airing 90 minutes earlier.

THIS WEEK’S SHOW

Since this week’s show is for higher stakes than normal, it’s only appropriate that the players should be accustomed to big money games. Five of the players participating in the game are regulars over at Bobby’s Room at the Bellagio. They are Jennifer Harman, Eli Elezra, Barry Greenstein, Phil Ivey and David Benyamine.

And in case you didn’t know, Bobby’s Room is where the big money games in Vegas are played.

The sixth and final player of the week is Allen Cunningham. He may not be a regular at Bobby’s Room, but he does happen to be one of the top tournament players in the world.

This will be a tough game, as both Ivey and Harman have already won the Poker After Dark event earlier in the season (walking away with $120,000 each).

SHOWTIME

The match will begin at 2:05am EST on October 8th, and it will continue through Friday a the same time. The “Director’s Cut” will air Saturday at 1am EST, immediately following Saturday Night Live.

If you’re a true fan of poker, you don’t want to miss this one.
