2007 Heisman Trophy Preview and Bodog Odds

On Saturday night, the winner of the NCAA’s biggest award will be announced in New York City. Of course, I’m talking about the 2007 Heisman Trophy. Awarded to the best overall college player in the nation, this award often gives us a sneak peek at a future NFL star. For example, Roger Staubach, O.J. Simpson, Earl Campbell, Barry Sanders and Bo Jackson were all past winners. Of course, Ty Detmer and Eric Crouch got the thing, so you just never know.

Who will walk away with the trophy this year? Well, let’s take a look at the candidates and then see what the odds makers over at Bodog have to say about it.

2007 HEISMAN TROPHY CANDIDATES

Darren McFadden, RB, - McFadden is third in the nation in rushing yards with 1,725, and he’s faced much stiffer competition than leaders Kevin Smith and Matt Forte. His numbers are better than last year, and he was a Heisman runner-up in 2006.

Lots of action is coming his way, partly due to his recent performance against LSU. In that game, he rushed for 206 yards, ran for 3 touchdowns and threw for another score.

Some point to his inconsistency, though, as he’s been held to less than 100 yards three times this season.

Chase Daniel, QB, Missouri - A big game player, Daniel has looked very impressive against teams like Kansas and Colorado. The 21-year-old certainly has the numbers to warrant a Heisman nod.

But his numbers haven’t been better than Tebow’s, and the fact that Tebow can also run may make the difference.

Colt Brennan, QB, Hawaii - This 24-year-old senior is seventh in the nation in passing (3,732) and fourth in touchdowns (33). His team is undefeated, and the Warriors have the highest-scoring offense in the country with 47.2 points per game.

But his numbers aren’t as good as they were last year, and he finished 6th in the 2006 Heisman voting. He’s also thrown 14 interceptions on the season.

Tim Tebow, QB, Florida - The sophomore quarterback has thrown for 29 touchdowns, 3,132 yards with only six interceptions. In 12 games, he’s also rushed for 838 yards and 22 touchdowns.

However, Florida was expected to go undefeated and contend for a national title. Instead, they’ve dropped games to Auburn, LSU and Georgia. Still, Tebow is the big favorite going into Saturday.

Also, be sure and google “Tim Tebow and girlfriend” and marvel at the size of his date’s boobs. WOW!
