UFC 79 - Bodog Odds and Full Card

On December 29th, 2007, the UFC will be putting on their latest MMA pay-per-view. Entitled UFC 79: Nemesis, the card will feature Matt Hughes taking on Georges St. Pierre for the Interim Welterweight title, while Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva will clash in a long-anticipated match. Knockout artist Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou will also be making his UFC debut.

GEORGES ST. PIERRE VS. MATT HUGHES

St. Pierre won the title by scoring a TKO against Hughes (Hughes had previously defeated him). St. Pierre was then beaten in an upset by Matt Serra. Hughes and Serra were opposing coaches on the sixth season of The Ultimate Fighter, and the two were scheduled to fight at the conclusion of the series. Unfortunately, Serra suffered an injury during training and was forced to withdraw from the fight. Enter Georges St. Pierre. The winner of this fight will face Serra for the title later in 2008.

CHUCK LIDDELL VS. WANDERLEI SILVA

This match has been anticipated for a long, long time. Liddell had a shot at facing Silva years ago when he competed in PRIDE, but he was knocked out by Quinton Jackson (who went on to get knocked out by Silva). Both men are coming off tough losses. Liddell most recently lost a decision to Keith Jardine, and before that he was knocked out in his rematch with “Rampage” Jackson. Silva, on the other hand, has suffered brutal knockouts at the hands of Mirko Cro-Cop and Dan Henderson.

There’s a good chance that the loser of this fight will retire. Don’t blink, as this one is sure to be a slugfest.
