British Casinos Are Back!

Six months ago, newly-elected Prime Minister Gordon Brown effectively killed plans to bring Vegas-style gambling to Britain. The original intention was to construct eight large, eight small and one massive casino in locations across the country.

Those in favor of the casinos were looking forward to the increased revenue for their cities. Manchester was especially excited, as they had been chosen to host the super casino.

Those opposed, mostly charities and church groups, cited a potential rise in crime but also opposed the move on moral grounds. Other residents were against the casinos due to increased crowds and traffic.

JUST AN OLD SOFTIE

Now, for whatever reason, it seems that Brown has had a change of heart. According to a letter sent to the Welsh and Scottish governments, the 16 large and small casinos will proceed, while the supercasino will remain shelved.

While recipients of the 16 casinos are happy to hear the news, Manchester is understandably pissed. They’ve even went on record as calling the whole thing a political stunt.

CASINO LOCATIONS

The smaller casinos (up to 10,764 square feet) will be located in Bath and North East Somerset, Dumfries and Galloway, Scarborough, Wolverhampton, Swansea, Luton, Torbay and East Lindsey and Lincs.

Larger casinos (measuring up to 53,820 square feet) will be placed in Leeds, Southampton, Great Yarmouth, Middlesbrough, Solihull, Milton Kenyes and Newham, Hull and London.

But don’ worry if you can’t make it out to these casinos in person. Bodog has an excellent online casino, and you never even have to leave your house to play!
