KIMBO SLICE VS. TANK ABBOTT

This fight was originally supposed to take place back in October of 2007 at Cage Fury Fighting Championships, but it ended up being cancelled at the last minute due to a dispute within the promotion. Now that EliteXC has the reigns, let’s hope this battle finally comes off.

Kimbo Slice

Slice stands 6’2” and weighs in at 250 pounds. He is currently 2-0 in MMA, with wins over Ray Mercer (guillotine choke) and Bo Cantrell (submission from strikes). He trains with former champion Bas Rutten.

Slice got noticed when his fights started cropping up on the Internet, and he wisely capitalized on that by moving into the world of MMA. His first two fights were simple affairs, but Abbott will present him with his first real test.

Tank Abbott

Abbott has a MMA record of 10-13, with wins over Steve Jennum, Paul Varelans and Cabbage Correira. He’s lost to the likes of Paul Buentello, Frank Mir, Pedro Rizzo, Vitor Belfort and Don Frye. It’s obvious to anyone that his best days are behind him, as Tank has lost 7 of his last 10 fights.

Still, power is the last thing to go, and Abbott will be throwing bombs from the opening bell. If Kimbo doesn’t take him to the ground, a big right hand could turn out the lights.

Prediction

Tank has a puncher’s chance, but Kimbo should walk away with a KO win. Training with Bas Rutten will really help, and Kimbo may get a chance to demonstrate a few rudimentary submission skills. Tank’s cardio has never been great, so expect this one to end in the first round.

Still, with the odds he‘s getting, it might not hurt to throw a few bills down on the hard-hitting Abbott.
