National Heads-Up Poker - Bodog Odds
On February 29th through March 2nd, the National Heads-Up Poker Championship will take place at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. 64 of the best poker players in the world will be competing to determine the best head-to-head player in the world. The matches will later air in NBC and be hosted by Gabe Kaplan and Matt Vasgersian.
HOW THE HEADS-UP CHAMPIONSHIP WORKS
The tournament is a single elimination format and works much like a college basketball bracket. If you win, you advance to the next round. Lose, and you’re out of the tournament. A player needs to win six heads-up matches to become the new champion.
The night before the tournament begins, the first round matches are seeded at random. Players are split into four brackets - Spade, Hearts, Diamonds and Clubs. Semifinals are comprised of one winner from each bracket. The finals match is a best-of-three to determine the champion.
PAST WINNERS
In 2005, Phil Hellmuth Jr. defeated Chris Ferguson 2-1 to become the first champion. He received $500,000 and Ferguson picked up $250,000 for the second place finish.
In 2006, Ted Forrest defeated Chris Ferguson by a score of 2-1.
In 2007, Paul Wasicka defeated Chad Brown by a score of 2-0.
