Online Poker Coming to California?

Despite the U.S. government getting its collective panties in a bunch over online gambling, it appears that the state of California is now mulling over the possibility of starting its own Internet poker site. To further that end, Lloyd Levine, a California state assemblymen, has introduced a bill calling for an investigation into the site’s feasibility by the Department of Justice and the California Gambling Control Commission.

Mr. Levine seems to be under the impression that everything would be kosher as long as the players and servers were located in the state of California. A study of the UIGEA will have to be made, of course, but Levine seemed convinced of the benefits to the state. In fact, he’s already stated that he would push to legalize online poker in California if things go well.

The bill is scheduled to be heard by the committee on March 20th, so more information should be available at that time.
