Oscar Winners and Bodog Odds
The 80th Annual Academy Awards were held on Sunday night, and movie lovers across the globe were holding their collective breath. Bodog customers were also waiting to exhale, as the well-known sportsbook was offering a number of bets based on the outcome of the various categories.Since we covered the nominees in a previous entry, we thought it only appropriate to go back and look at the big Oscar winners. Bodog odds have also been provided.
2008 OSCAR WINNERS
Best Director
Despite some fierce competition, the double-threat of Joel and Ethan Coen finally won a Best Director award for No Country for Old Men. In many ways, this is also an Oscar for Fargo, Raising Arizona, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Miller’s Crossing and many other previous works. Considered strong contenders for the award, the brothers were only getting 2/7 odds on Bodog.
Best Supporting Actress
Many expected Cate Blanchett to walk away with this one for her portrayal of Bob Dylan, but the experts were stunned when Tilda Swinton pulled off the upset for her role in Michael Clayton. A 20/1 underdog, Swinton may have been the surprise of the night. She then proceeded to take the stage and reveal to everyone that co-star George Clooney is actually Batman, often wearing the Batsuit under his normal attire. Shocking.
Best Supporting Actor
This was an easy one, friendo, as almost everyone expected Javier Bardem (1/10) to win for his role as a cold-blooded killer in No Country for Old Men. A touching tribute to his mother followed, and you could almost see Bardem’s Hollywood stock rising.
Best Actress
Julie Christie was the big favorite in this category, but my jaw dropped to the floor when Marion Cotillard had her name called. The French actress was getting 15/4 odds for her role as Edith Piaf in La Vie En Rose. I never saw that one coming.
Best Actor
Coming in with 1/10 odds, everyone and their dog assumed Daniel Day-Lewis would win for his role as an amoral oilman in There Will Be Blood. They were right. Now repeat after me, “I DRINK YOUR MILKSHAKE…I DRINK IT UP!”
Best Picture
There Will Be Blood and Michael Clayton both had a legitimate chance to win, but No Country for Old Men ultimately came out on top. Going into the show, it was getting 2/5 odds. Frankly, we need more Best Picture winners with a character referred to as “The Ultimate Badass.”
