American Idol Stripper Scandal

It seems like American Idol has started to rival Paris Hilton and Britney Spears for the sheer number of scandals generated. In the past, we’ve gotten photo scandals with contestants Amanda Overmyer (dig that crazy hair) Ramiele Mulubay, Antonella Barba and Frenchie Davis, but the latest skin scandal involves a male contestant.

TAKE IT OFF…TAKE IT ALL OFF…FOR MEN

According to Gordy Bryan, the manager of an Arizona-based male strip-club known as Dick’s Cabaret, Idol contestant David Hernandez worked as a stripper and performed lap dances for the club’s mostly male patrons.

According to Bryan (and, really, is there any more reliable source than a strip-club manager?), Hernandez worked there from 2004 until 2007 and made “pretty good money.”

Bryan went on to say that Hernandez never renewed his license with the state, so he hasn’t worked there since. This leads me to a question….you have to have a license to be a male stripper?!

GIVE ME A LAP DANCE, DAWG

The big question on everyone’s mind was whether or not this latest scandal would be mentioned on American Idol on Tuesday night. Hernandez, who’s currently getting 28/1 odds from Bodog to win the season, was possibly in danger of being kicked off the show. Meanwhile, David Archuleta remains the 8/11 favorite, while Luke Menard brings up the rear at 175/1.

But as the 24-year-old Hernandez took the stage to perform Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now,” the incident wasn’t mentioned. As he finished performing, judge Simon Cowell mumbled something about stripping off-camera, but that was it. Otherwise, Hernandez came out unscathed.

By the way…here’s a tip: If you don’t want people to think you’re gay (not that there‘s anything wrong with that), don’t strip for men and sing Celine Dion songs on national television. Just a suggestion.
