Legal Sports Betting in Atlantic City?

At the moment, sports betting is not allowed in Atlantic City. However, that may change in the near future.

The New Jersey Assembly recently approved a bill which would allow voters to decide the fate of sports betting in Atlantic City casinos. The bill will next go before the legislature and then the governor. If they both approve it, then the question would be placed on the November general election ballot.

And if that passes….well, that’s where things get a bit confusing.

See, legal sports betting is only allowed by federal law in Montana, Delaware, Nevada and Oregon, and Nevada is the only state where someone can bet on both college and pro games. Even if Atlantic City residents vote the bill through, there’s still that pesky federal law to get around.

And there’s opposition in the form of the National Football League. They oppose sports betting because, according to the NFL attorney, “It turns human players into roulette chips with the sanction of the state.”

In the meantime, why not visit a legal online sportsbook like Bodog?
