A CLOSER LOOK AT SHAMROCK VS. LE

Frank Shamrock had vowed to stand and trade with Cung Le on Saturday night, and that’s exactly what he did. Unfortunately, this strategy resulted in both a loss for Shamrock and a broken right wrist. Meanwhile, Le captured the Strikeforce Middleweight Title, his first MMA championship.

It was something of an unusual strategy, considering that Le has questionable ground skills and Shamrock has a number of submission wins to his credit.

"I caught him in the head first, and then I was going to kick him again," said Le. "He pulled up his arm and I caught him with a kick. I heard his arm break. He kind of staggered back and I just chased him down with punches."

When the third round ended, Shamrock had to be helped onto his stool. He then moved to the canvas and was examined by the ringside doctor. Moments later, the fight was over. At the time of the stoppage, one judge had it 30-27, while the other two had 29-28, all for Cung Le.
