Dallas Stars vs. Anaheim Ducks - NHL Playoff Odds

As the NHL Western Conference quarterfinals heat up on Tuesday night, the Dallas Stars will be looking to jump out to a three game to none lead over the defending Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks. To make matters worse for the (once Mighty) Ducks, the teams will be playing at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

With home-ice advantage over the Stars, many expected a quick 2-0 series lead for the Ducks. This was supported by the fact that the Stars bumbled their way to a 4-8-2 record to close out the regular season. But the Stars weren’t willing to play along, blowing the Ducks out 4-0 in the opening game at the Honda Center before delivering a 5-2 drubbing a couple of days later.

BACK IN DALLAS

The Stars will host games 3 and 4, where their regular season record was 23-16-2. The Ducks, meanwhile, struggled on the road this year, going an unimpressive 19-18-4 when away from the OC.
While Dallas fans aren’t really known for the passion, it’s certain that tonight’s game will elicit louder cheers than usual. For one, a series win over the Ducks will give them their first opening round win since 2003.

NOT-SO-MIGHTY DUCKS?

Last year, they became the first West Coast team to ever hold Lord Stanley’s Cup aloft. Winning back-to-back titles would make them the first since the Red Wings did it in 1997 and 98.

And with Chris Pronger and Teemu Selanne back in the lineup, this seemed like a certainty (especially when you consider that the Ducks wrapped up the season with a record of 20-5-1). But don’t forget that Dallas won the regular season series 5-3.

Going into this series, Bodog had the Ducks as 7/1 favorites, while the Stars were getting 18/1. It’s far from over, but those odds are looking pretty sweet right now.
