UFC Silva vs. Irvin - MMA Betting Odds from Bodog
UFC: Silva vs. Irvin will be held this Saturday, July 19th, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The whole card was thrown together on short notice to compete with the big Affliction PPV which has Fedor Emelianenko. The main event will feature UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva moving up to fight in the light heavyweight division, and you can catch it for free on Spike.Personally, this seems like a pretty chickenshit move to me. Instead of just accepting the fact that they might have a little competition, the UFC is rushing to cut the Affliction event off at the knees. And in the process, they’re risking a loss to one of their few current dominant champions. It just seems like this could end up costing them money in the long run, but nobody could ever accuse Dana White and company of thinking with their heads.

ANDERSON SILVA VS. JAMES IRVIN
Silva won the middleweight title by destroying Rich Franklin, and he has since won a rematch and also defeated Dan Henderson. He’s undefeated in the UFC, having won each of his four fights in two rounds or less.
His career record is 21-4, with 12 wins by knockout and 6 by submission. “The Spider” is comfortable on his feet or on the ground, and he even recently expressed interest in fighting Roy Jones Jr. in a pure boxing match. He stands 6’2” and currently weighs 205 pounds.
His last loss came in 2006, when he was disqualified for an illegal kick to the head of Yushin Okami. He is expected to have a rematch with Okami sometime in the next year.
Irvin knocked out up-and-coming Houston Alexander in 8 seconds, thereby tying the record for the UFC’s fastest knockout. The Sandman stands 6’2” and weighs 205 pounds, and his career record is 14-4 with 1 No Contest. Nine of his wins have come by knockout, while 2 have come by way of submission.
Irvin’s last loss was in 2006 to Thiago Silva, when Irvin suffered a knee injury and could not continue.
While Silva has been dominant as of late, Irvin is a +350 underdog. The world of MMA is filled with upsets, and Silva does normally fight at a lower weight class. Personally, I would wager on Irvin if I was pressed, and the offered betting line is pretty sweet.
Another one to look at is Reese Andy getting +400 against Brandon Vera. While I fully expect Vera to win the fight, you just never know what will happen inside the octagon.
