Heather Mitts - Babe of the Week

I'm taking a week off starting on December 1st, but I wanted to leave everyone with a little something to tide you over. This lovely lady is Heather Mitts. She's been voted the "Hottest Female Athlete" by visitors to ESPN's website. In addition, she's been part of America's 2004 and 2008 gold-medal-winning Olympic soccer teams.

Poker News - Online Poker News

Poker news! Poker news! Poker news!

With so much going on in the world of poker, I decided to dedicate a whole entry just to focus on some recent poker news. For more gambling information, be sure and browse through our previous articles here at Dare to Gamble.

BINION’S NEW POKER ROOM

Binion’s, the original home of the World Series of Poker, has recently opened up a new 10-table poker room. The walls of the room are covered with historic photos, as well as several large-screen plasma televisions. The Poker Hall of Fame and Binion’s Gallery can be found out in the concierge area.

Players can enjoy comp privileges, special hotel room rates and food service. The casino also takes a maximum rake of $3 on all live poker games.

Of course, this room is no doubt intended to bring in the high rollers. If you’re a poker lightweight like me, you might be better off trying Binion’s 45-table poker tournament area.

And if you don’t even want to leave the house, you can always log onto Bodog’s online casino for some of the best poker around.

POKER HALL OF FAME

The 36th and 37th members of the Poker Hall of Fame were recently inducted. While the Final Table of this year’s World Series of Poker was being played, Duane “Dewey” Tomko and Harry Orenstein were being honored for all their accomplishments and contributions to the game of poker.

Orenstein survived the Holocaust and went on to win the 1996 World Series of Poker Seven-Card Stud event. He’s also cashed twice in the Main Event, including a 1995 trip to the Final Table.

He’s also an accomplished inventor, holding more than 100 patents on numerous children’s toys. In addition, he also holds the patent on the “Hole Card Cam,” the device credited with revolutionizing poker on television.

Tomko has won three WSOP bracelets, and he’s finished second in the Main Event on two different occasions. He also holds the record for the longest streak of entries into the Main Event (35 years).

CRYPTOLOGIC JOINS WITH BOSS MEDIA

It was recently announced that Internet Poker giants CryptoLogic Inc. and Boss Media would be joining forces. Scheduled to take place during the first quarter of 2009, this merger will involve the two companies combining their network of licenses into an even larger version of Boss Media’s International Poker Network. This will include such popular online games as InterPoker and ParBet.

POKER IN TEXAS

If you live in the Lone Star State, you know it’s impossible to find a legal game of poker in Texas. That may soon change if Jose Menendez (D - San Antonio) gets his way. Menendez has introduced a piece of legislation known as the “Poker Gaming Act of 2009.” He also introduced a similar bill in 2007, but it died on the committee level.

According to the bill, possible places for legal poker games to take place include bars, tribal gaming facilities, pari-mutual outlets and social clubs. A Poker Gaming Revenue Fund would also be created, with 50% of the net proceeds going towards things like homeless shelters and the state’s housing trust fund.

Tournaments would also be allowed, with buy-ins ranging up to $100.Bad-beat jackpots would also be allowable with a $250 maximum payout.

Happy Thanksgiving from Dare to Gamble

NFL Week 13 - Odds and Predictions from Bodog

Week 12 of the NFL season is done, and what a week it was! For those of you keeping score, it was the highest-scoring week in NFL history. Everywhere you looked, team were putting up 30+ points like it was nothing.

Of course, Week 13 is a whole new ballgame, so who knows what’s in store for us. Whatever the case, it’s not going to stop me from making my weekly picks.

Last week, I complied a solid 10-5 record picking against the line over at Bodog. That brings my season total to a respectable 71-60-2. If I can just keep my momentum going, I may have a really nice record by the end of the NFL season.

NFL INJURIES - WEEK 13

Before you place your bets, there are a few injury situations you might want to take note of.

Brian Westbrook (RB - Eagles) He’s going to try to play, but expect him to be hampered by a high-ankle sprain. This injury has played havoc with Westbrook’s numbers over the last month.

Steven Jackson (RB - Rams) He practiced some this week, but it’s still up in the air as to whether Jackson will play or not. Even if he does, expect the Rams runner to be less than 100%.

Reggie Bush (RB - Saints) Bush should make his return this week after missing four games with an injured knee. It might take a week or two for him to round into shape, but the Saints can afford to be patient - they scored 51 against the Packers on Monday Night Football.

Brady Quinn (QB - Browns) After trying to play through a broken finger, Quinn is out for the year. Derek Anderson will once again be the starter for the Browns.

Plaxico Burress (WR - Giants) Plaxico continues to struggle. The Giants, however, have been just fine without him.

Clinton Portis (RB - Redskins) Portis may be less than 100%, but expect him to play.

Willie Parker (RB - Steelers) Parker may miss another game due to injury, but Mewelde Moore will be a more than adequate replacement.

NFL WEEK 13 - BODOG ODDS

My predictions are in bold print. Odds are courtesy of Bodog.

Niners +6 ½ @ Bills -6 ½

Saints +4 @ Bucs -4

Panthers +3 @ Packers -3

NFL Week 12 - Bodog Odds and Predictions

Week 12 of the NFL has rolled around, and I’ve somehow managed to stay above .500 on my NFL picks. Going into last week, I had a season record of 56-49-2. After making my picks for Week 11, I ended up with a 5-6 record. That brings my overall total to 61-55-2.

It could be worse, but I’m always hoping for better. With the vig figured in, I’m still losing money.

NFL WEEK 12 INJURIES

When picking your winners or losers for the week, keep the following NFL injuries in mind.

Brian Westbrook (RB - Eagles) Questionable with an ankle injury

Clonie Gowen Files Lawsuit Against Full Tilt Poker

Looks like things are getting pretty heated between Clonie Gowen and Full Tilt Poker. The professional poker player with over $1,500,000 in live tournament winnings is suing the online poker website which she formerly endorsed.

Formerly? That’s because Gowen (real first name - Cycalona) was recently told that her services were no longer needed. She was also informed that her image would be removed from all of the company’s promotional material.

Clonie Gowen’s 20-page lawsuit claims $40 million in damages, listing charges such as unjust enrichment and fraud, breach of the Covenant of Good Faith and Fair Dealing, breach of contract and fiduciary duty.

Gowen admitted that no written contract was ever signed, but she insisted that an oral agreement had been reached. To back this up, there are transcripts of various conversations which took place over the phone or in business meetings with company executives.

Full Tilt Poker called the filing “meritless” and “frivolous.”

CLONIE GOWEN FIRED

So what happened? It’s being reported that Full Tilt Poker decided that Gowen was no longer a good representative for their brand.

I have no idea how Gowen conducts herself away from the poker table, so I suppose that anything is possible. It’s also possible that Full Tilt was looking to dump her for a younger, fresher face. Let’s face it - at 37 years of age, Gowen has seen her better days.

Of course, since a contract was never signed, it’s going to be hard for Gowen to actually prove anything. Why she wouldn’t get a deal in writing is beyond me.

One thing is for sure, though. She wouldn’t have had these problems if she was a member of Team Bodog.

NFL Week 11 - Bodog Odds and Predictions

Another week of the NFL season has passed us by. Let us bid farewell to jolly old Week 10 and welcome in the impish Week 11 (I don’t sound bored, do I?). At least we’re finally past the bye weeks, but that also means that the NFL Network will be stealing some of the games from free TV. Still, at least they had the sense to get rid of Bryant Gumbel.

As you may know, I’ve somewhat struggled in my football predictions this season. Last year was decent, but this year has been much harder. I came into last week with an overall record of 46-46-2. Not exactly impressive.

Luckily, I showed a lot of improvement (or luck) in Week 10. I finished with a record of 10-3, bringing my overall total to 56-49-2.

NFL INJURIES AND UPDATES

Before you go and wager on the outcome of any Week 11 football games, make sure you’re aware of all the latest injuries. When a team is missing a starter or two, it can make a big difference in their overall performance. Here are a few to keep in mind:

Matt Hassel beck (QB - Seahawks) - Returns from back problems this week.

Tony Romo (QB - Cowboys) - Returns from a broken finger.

Larry Johnson (RB - Chiefs) - Returns from suspension.

Reggie Wayen (WR - Colts) - Ankle injury. Expected to play.

Matt Jones (WR - Jaguars) - Thigh injury. Expected to play.

Marques Colston (WR - Saints) - Knee. Expected to play..

Reggie Bush (RB - Saints) - Knee. Might play in a limited capacity.

Derrick Mason (WR - Ravens) - Shoulder. Game time decision.

Steven Jackson (RB - Rams) - Thigh. Not expected to play.

Frank Gore (RB - 49ers) - Neck. Expected to play.

Clinton Portis (RB - Redskins) - Knee. Not expected to play.

UFC 91: Couture vs. Lesnar - Bodog Odds and Full Card

UFC 91: Couture vs. Lesnar will take place on November 15th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main event features returning heavyweight champion Randy Couture defending his title against Brock Lesnar. The winner of that fight will later face the victor of December’s Frank Mir / Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira match.

Matt Riddle was originally scheduled to take on Ryan Thomas, but an injury forced him to withdraw. Matt Brown is filling in.

Also, Amir Sadollah was forced to back out of his fight with Nick Catone due to a leg infection. The fight was eventually cancelled when a replacement could not be found. Because of this, the bout between Tamdan McCrory and Dustin Hazelett was bumped up to the main card.

RANDY COUTURE VS. BROCK LESNAR

Randy Couture - The Champion

After patching things up with the UFC, Randy Couture is returning to the Octagon to defend his title. Here are some important facts about the champ.

Height: 6’1”

Weight: 220 pounds

Accomplishments: Olympic wrestling team alternate

One of only two UFC fighters to hold titles in different weight divisions (the other being BJ Penn)

Only 5-time champ in UFC history.

A member of the UFC Hall of Fame

The oldest titles holder in the UFC and MMA (45 years old).

MMA Record: 16-8

Notable Wins: Tim Sylvia, Gabriel Gonzaga, Vitor Belfort, Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, Pedro Rizzo, Kevin Randleman and Jeremy Horn. (7 wins by KO, 2 wins by submission and 7 wins by decision)

Notable Losses: Chuck Liddell (twice), Josh Barnett, Enson Inoue (4 losses by KO and 4 losses by submission)

Quote: “I’ve watched the footage that’s out there for Brock, and obviously his most recent endeavor in the Octagon was Heath Herring and I see the differences and see the improvement. I have a pretty good idea technically of where he’s coming from because we share that similar wrestling background. I’ve wrestled plenty of guys that are Brock’s size. I don’t believe I’ve fought anybody that’s Brock’s size other than Tim (Sylvia). Most of my recent fights, the guys have been pretty large, at least outweighing me by 25 pounds. So those are things I’ve trained and am prepared to deal with.”

Brock Lesnar - The Challenger

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 265 pounds

Accomplishments: 2000 NCAA wrestling champion

Offered a developmental spot on the Minnesota Vikings

Former WWE heavyweight champion

MMA Record: 2-1

Notable Wins: Heath Herring and Min Soo Kim

Notable Losses: Frank Mir

Quote: “In my mind, before I fought with (Mir), I wanted to come in and fight two or three fights and win those fights and hopefully get a title shot. This has been a blessing in disguise. I wouldn’t even consider Randy as an underdog. He’s a tough son of a bitch. Randy wasn’t an underdog against Gonzaga, nor was he an underdog against Tim Sylvia. I never thought that he was in any of those fights. Randy’s a world-class athlete regardless of his age.”

Peter Eastgate Crowned as 2008 WSOP Main Event Champ

After four months of the poker world holding its breath, the latest World Series of Poker Main Event champion has finally been crowned. While Ivan Demidov looked to be the strong favorite once the game started, the eventual winner was none other than Danish player Peter Eastgate.

Not only is he the first main event Danish champ, but he also broke Phil Hellmuth’s record as the youngest player ever to win the WSOP main event. That record stood for almost twenty years.

THE FINAL HAND

As the two remaining players went into heads-up play, Eastgate had 80,300,000 chips to Demidov’s 56,600,000. Eastgate would never let up throughout the grueling heads-up play.

On the final hand, Eastgate limped in from the button, while Demidov checked the big blind. Eastgate wagered 1.25 million on the flop and forced Demidov to call. Demidov checked on the turn and Eastgate bet 2 million. Demidov then put half of his stack into the pot . Eastgate called.

When the river came, Demidov announced that he was going all-in. Eastgate called, and Demidov revealed two pair. But it wasn’t good enough, as Eastgate showed his wheel straight.

Demidov took home over 5 million for his second-place finish, while Eastgate won $9,152,416. With the win, he now vaults into the top 5 of the all-time money list at the WSOP.

BODOG ODDS FOR THE WSOP

Prior to the tournament, Bodog was offering odds on the World Series of Poker main event. Eastgate’s odds to win were 5 to 1, while Bodog set the odds of a Danish player winning at 9 to 2. While Eastgate won it all, they also had him at 10 to 1 to be the first player eliminated at the final table.

NFL Week 10 Odds and Predictions from Bodog

Week 10 of the NFL season is approaching fast, and we’ll see the year’s first Thursday night game tonight (Broncos vs. Browns). I didn’t make any predictions last week, but my Week 8 predictions ended up being awful. I went 4-8-2 for the week, giving me an overall total of 46-46-2. At least I get a chance to improve upon that this week.

By the way, before you lay any wagers this week, make sure you check the injury reports. There are plenty of guys banged up, benched or suspended, and that can have a huge impact on the games. Here are just a few of the players affected:

Ashley Force - Babe of the Week

This week's babe is Ashley Force, a breakout star in the world of funny car drag racing. IN 2007, she was selected as Rookie of the Year in the funny car division, and she earned her first win in 2008 by defeating her own father. She makes Danica Patrick look like a hag in my opinion. Too bad drag racing isn't more popular, or this hottie would be huge!
